UPPER POTTSGROVE >> The Mercury Mile walk is back after a short break and will start once again on noon Wednesday with a series at Althouse Arboretum.
Althouse Arboretum is made possible through a partnership between a nonprofit sustainability organization called GreenAllies and Upper Pottsgrove Township. Starting this week, Mercury Mile participants will walk a different trail at the arboretum for three weeks in row. Walkers will meet noon each time at the address 1794 Gilbertsville Road, Pottstown for the dates Sept. 9, 16 and 23. GreenAllies representatives will guide all walks in the series.
The community is invited to attend this free walking series and experience some of the beautiful outdoor trails that surround the arboretum. Participants will spend part of their lunch hour walking a mile which can help relieve stress and energize you for the rest of the workday. The first walk in the series will travel through the scenic woods at the new arboretum. On Sept. 16, walkers will take a guided hike along Sprogel’s Run Trail to the ponds and stream at Sussell Park. The last walk in the series on Sept. 23 will travel along Sprogel’s Run Trail to Prout Farm Park.
A few days after the walk series ends, Althouse Arboretum will host a 5K run and community picnic to celebrate the arboretum’s grand opening. The Sprogel’s 5K Trail Run and Walk will begin 10 a.m. on Sept. 26. The race will take participants through three Upper Pottsgrove parks and the new Althouse Arboretum. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a grand opening ceremony and after, the public is welcomed to check out the arboretum’s trails and features. For more information, contact Ken Hamilton at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking as a free exercise. It also gives the community the opportunity to talk with area organizations. Usually each week, different businesses or organizations will host The Mercury Mile. The walk will travel from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange. Find out what’s going on in the area and form new partnerships.
Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at email@example.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
