The Mercury Mile walk series at Althouse Arboretum continues noon tomorrow with a short guided trail hike .

Althouse Arboretum is made possible through a partnership between a nonprofit sustainability organization called GreenAllies and Upper Pottsgrove Township. A GreenAllies representative will guide all walks in the series.. Last week walkers saw native plants and handmade structures in the woods. To participate this week, meet at the address 1794 Gilbertsville Road, Pottstown noon tomorrow, Sept. 16.

The community is invited to attend this free walking series and experience some of the beautiful outdoor trails that surround the arboretum. The last walk in the series is next week on Sept. 23.

A few days after the walk series ends, Althouse Arboretum will host a 5K run and community picnic to celebrate the arboretum’s grand opening. The Sprogel’s 5K Trail Run and Walk will begin 10 a.m. on Sept. 26. At 10:30 a.m. there will be a grand opening ceremony. For more information, contact Ken Hamilton at khamilton@green-allies.org.

The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking as a free exercise. It also gives the community the opportunity to talk with area organizations. Usually each week, different businesses or organizations will host The Mercury Mile. The walk will travel from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange. Find out what’s going on in the area and form new partnerships.

Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at mpatterson@pottsmerc.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.

To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life website pottsmercfit4life.wordpress.com and like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/Mercfit4life. Walkers can also be added to The Mercury Mile email list by contacting Michilea Patterson at mpatterson@pottsmerc.com. Send your name from the email you would like to use, and each week the mile’s location will be sent to you as well as other healthy living events coming up in the area.

If there is inclement weather during any day of the series at Althouse Arboretum then that walk will be cancelled and The Mercury Mile will resume the following Wednesday. Please check the Fit for Life Facebook by 11 a.m. Wednesday to check the status of that day’s walk.
