‘Go for the Goal’ video screening set

LOWER POTTSGROVE >> Area youth have been pretty busy lately developing their talents.

That’s why they’re planning on showing the community what they can accomplish in a comprehensive video set to music they helped write.

The video — titled “Go for the Goal” — is the result of a collaborative effort between STRIVE and the JT Dorsey Foundation, both groups aimed at assisting in youth development in areas that need it.

Children involved in a local mentoring program ran drills with the Soccer for Success program as part of a music video about going for the goal.

Children involved in a local mentoring program ran drills with the Soccer for Success program as part of a music video about going for the goal.

Children from the Soccer for Success program, which began in Pottstown about three years ago through the JT Dorsey Foundation, have had the opportunity to participate in the creation of a motivational video that syncs their music to footage of the group engaging in a soccer game. Over the summer, the kids came up with rhyming words and phrases then combined it all together to create the “Go for the Goal” song. The kids even got the courage to speak on a microphone in front of everyone to create stories through rhymes.

“We wanted to do something different because we have a fall, summer and spring program and there’s weeks in between we don’t have interaction with the kids so we wanted to do something that would allow us to interact with them throughout the year,” said Lori Verdone. “They wrote the song and we asked them what teamwork and Soccer for Success meant to them. In the beginning they didn’t want to participate because they’re soccer players but when they saw they could take their words and share them in music, they got really excited about it.”

Now that the hard work is finished, the group will have the opportunity to showcase their efforts at a viewing of the video at the beginning of next month.

“The collaboration of the organizations is what was really important about this,” explained Verdone. “It was just so much fun and turned out be amazing.”

“Go for the Goal” will premier at Pottsgrove Middle School on Friday March 4 beginning at 6 p.m. The viewing is free and open to the public and interested guests can register at www.jtdorsey.org/registrations to save a seat.
