POTTSTOWN >> The community is invited to be on a mission with the YWCA Tri-County Area this Wednesday for The Mercury Mile walk.
The local YWCA will host the community walk noon Wednesday beginning from the YWCA at 315 King St. Side street parking is available in the area. The YWCA offers a variety of services including women and girls’ empowerment programs, adult education and training, and programs to eliminate racism.
The nonprofit organization has several upcoming events. A nutrition-based program that includes gardening called “You Grow Girl” will be available June 27 through June 30th. There will be a 7-week YW Camp Adventure for children ages 4 to 12 starting July 5. For the first time, the YWCA will have a Tribute to Exceptional Girls on Sept. 17; nominations are being accepted now. To learn more about these programs and more, walk with YWCA staff on Wednesday. People can also visit the website at www.ywcatricountyarea.org or call 610-323-1888.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community to join as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.
Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at email@example.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life website pottsmercfit4life.wordpress.com and like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/Mercfit4life. If there is inclement weather Wednesday afternoon, then the walk will be cancelled and the series will continue next week.
