The local YWCA will host the community walk noon Wednesday beginning from the YWCA at 315 King St. Side street parking is available in the area. The YWCA offers a variety of services including women and girls’ empowerment programs, adult education and training, and programs to eliminate racism.

The nonprofit organization has several upcoming events. A nutrition-based program that includes gardening called “You Grow Girl” will be available June 27 through June 30th. There will be a 7-week YW Camp Adventure for children ages 4 to 12 starting July 5. People walk in Pottstown for The Mercury Mile. The YWCA will host the next community walk from their building on King Street.

The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community to join as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.

Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at mpatterson@pottsmerc.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.

To find each week’s location, visit the Fit for Life website pottsmercfit4life.wordpress.com and like the Facebook page www.facebook.com/Mercfit4life. Walkers can also be added to The Mercury Mile email list by contacting Patterson. If there is inclement weather Wednesday afternoon, then the walk will be cancelled and the series will continue next week.
