POTTSTOWN >> Yawning in the middle of the day or being overwhelmed with tasks are signs that you should join this Wednesday’s Mercury Mile walk.
A short lunchtime walk can be the answer to a lack of energy or a quick reprieve from everyday stressors. Since July is National Parks and Recreation Month, the Mercury Mile will meet noon Wednesday, July 13, at Memorial Park. The address is 75 W. King Street and participants are to meet in the parking lot area to the right.
Memorial Park is one of 12 participating in a regional parks contest where winners can win up to $10,000 for improvements. The recreational area, which has a walking trail, spray park and dog park, is also the location of several upcoming events. Watch the Pottstown Police Department perform a K9 demonstration 1 p.m. Saturday at the park. The event is presented by the Summer Food Service Program and all children 18 and under will be served a free meal. There will be a free kid’s agility course at the pavilion area July 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Then the next day on July 21, the community is invited to a free Elvis tribute show at the park from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
So leave that work file or task on the “to do list” for 20 minutes to enjoy a relaxing and peaceful outdoor walk with others.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Sometimes, different businesses or organizations host the weekly activity. The walk has travelled from one organization to the next encouraging staff to walk at lunch and inviting the community to join as well. Walkers are asked to bring business cards or contact information to exchange with one another.
Businesses that host The Mercury Mile will be featured in our “Businesses in Motion” section online and in the print newspaper. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at email@example.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
