UPPER POTTSGROVE >> Find your way through the woods with a guided walk at the Althouse Arboretum during The Mercury Mile on Wednesday afternoon.
Fall is near which means there’s only a couple of months before the cold and snow returns. Enjoy the outdoors while you still can with the free “Walk in Nature” series. The first walk of the series began last week and only two events remain. The next 1-mile exploratory walk will begin from the arboretum, 1794 Gilbertsville Road, at noon Wednesday.
Althouse Arboretum is made possible through a partnership between a nonprofit sustainability organization called Green Allies and Upper Pottsgrove Township. The arboretum has so many great features to see such as many native plants as well as built structures like an outdoor classroom. So don’t miss the opportunity to explore the arboretum trails with a group this Wednesday and Sept. 21 at noon. Green Allies representatives will guide all walks in the series.
The social walk is meant to allow area residents to come together and learn about local events and opportunities. The arboretum has several upcoming healthy events that the community can enjoy. A “Save Our Ash” 5K trail run will be held there on Oct. 8. The running event is a fundraiser to help save the arboretum’s ash forest from invasive beetles. For more information or to register online, visit www.green-allies.org/cm/index.php/news-events/save-our-ash-5k-trail-run. There will be a family night hike at the arboretum on Oct. 15 and a haunted night hike on Oct. 29. For more information about these events and the arboretum, visit the website althousearboretum.wordpress.com or the Facebook page www.facebook.com/althousearboretum.
Everyone’s invited to the walk on Wednesday including children and pets. Don’t hesitate to invite coworkers, friends and family. The more walkers we have, the merrier.
The Mercury Mile is weekly and promotes walking and other fitness activities as a free exercise. Organizations interested in hosting the walk should email Michilea Patterson at email@example.com or call 610-850-0282 to schedule a time.
