PHOTOS: 300 join Ride for the River, start and finish at Sly Fox Can Jam

The Schuylkill River Heritage Area had their first Ride for River on Saturday in conjunction with the Sly Fox Can Jam Music Festival.

More than 300 people joined the bicycling event which started and finished from the festival’s location at Circle of Progress Drive in Pottstown. Registration for the bike ride included a free voucher for one meal and one 16 ounce beer at the Can Jam Festival. Riders had the option of doing a 40-mile or 16-mile journey. Those that chose bike 40 miles rode to the Reading Riverfront Park while those that chose to bike 16 miles rode to the Union Township Recreation Area. Both groups bicycled along the Schuylkill River Trail after a short on-road section from the start in Pottstown.

The Schuylkill River Heritage Area has partnered with the Sly Fox Brewery before. A portion of the brewery’s SRT Ale sales goes toward the upkeep of the Schuylkill River Trail. Sly Fox presented the heritage are with a check of the proceeds during Saturday’s music festival.
