NORTH COVENTRY >> The community is invited to dance for fitness while raising money for a worthy cause with a Zumba fundraiser on Saturday.
Zumba is a fitness class that incorporates dances moves and exercises to music. A Zumbathon with six instructors will be held at Gianni’s Event Venue from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. The address is 1445 E. Schuylkill Road. Tickets can be bought at the door for $15 each.
The dance for a cause event will raise funds for Jenny Pagliaro, a 31-year-old with stage IV breast cancer that’s spread to her bones and liver. Pagliaro is the daughter of Mike Pagliaro, a former chef of the Kimberton Whole Foods café department. He recently left the area to be with his daughter Jenny in California, said Donna Lepone, a Zumba instructor and one of the organizers of Saturday’s fundraiser.
“It just hit home because we have a lot of Zumba people that go to Kimberton Whole Foods, go to the café and know Mike,” Lepone said.
She said the local Zumba community wanted to support his family and bring awareness to cancer which affects many people. She said her best friend is a cancer survivor and will speak about her experience at the Zumbathon.
Lepone said Zumba is often used to bring awareness to different issues and support those in need. The activity makes people happy but can also be used to help others, she said.
“Zumba is actually a world of love,” she said.
